Scope Screenings 9/24
On a Tuesday night at the SIFF Egyptian, a crowd of mostly young BIPOC creators in the latest styles and trends gather, taking pictures, hugging, and giving daps. It’s an unusual sight for Seattle. The crowd is a mix of fashionistas, designers, photographers, rappers, artists, filmmakers, writers, and hangers-on, creating a vibe that feels more like a typical night out in L.A. But this is Scope Screenings, a monthly event.

Punk is Not Dead! She’s BLACK!
I wrote that phrase on the back of my jean jacket in high school and was often met with confused responses. “What do you mean she’s Black?” “How could punk be Black?” My answer was always the same: punk music’s past, present, and future lie within the Black community. If you want to know where punk is right now, look to the Black community, where she came from.

Mountain Rose Herbs Mercantile Opens New Seattle Store: A Must-Visit for Herbal Enthusiasts
This past weekend marked the much-anticipated opening of Mountain Rose Herbs Mercantile's Seattle store—their second physical location. It’s no surprise that Seattle was chosen as the perfect spot for this expansion, and the long line of eager customers waiting outside was clear proof. Seattle loves natural products, organic produce, and the potential power of plants to heal.

AfroPunk Seattle - Year 1
The first year of anything is always the toughest—it’s when you have the most to prove, the most to lose, and the most to figure out. We’ve all been there, and I’m not one to judge anyone for what happens in that crucial first year.
BUT… (you knew a “but” was coming, right?)

Leonora Carrington: A Visionary Surrealist Master
Leonora Carrington is one of those rare artists whose life was just as fascinating as the work she created. Born in 1917 in England, Carrington defied the conventions of her time, escaping a life of privilege to pursue art and her own brand of surrealism. Her paintings, full of mysterious figures, dreamlike landscapes, and a touch of the occult, invite us to step into a world where the ordinary rules don't apply—and that's precisely the point.

Junji Ito: The Master of the Macabre
If you've ever felt a chill run down your spine while turning the pages of a manga, there's a good chance Junji Ito is to blame. Known for his spine-tingling tales and unnerving illustrations, Ito has firmly established himself as a master of horror. The way that Ito has become a horror icon in the west is astounding, especially when you consider how much of a moderate success he is in his home country of Japan. But Ito’s work is everywhere, adaptations on Cartoon Network, tattoos, cosplay, makeup tutorials, toys, clothes, and merch.

Yoshitaka Amano: The Master of Ethereal Art
Yoshitaka Amano is a name that resonates deeply within the realms of fantasy and art. His work, characterized by its ethereal beauty and intricate details, has left an indelible mark on both the world of gaming and the broader art community. If you are a fan of video games or even fine art you have come across his work. It’s undeniably his own. A beautiful cross between the worlds of fine Japanese brushwork and the dynamic eye catching style of fantasy art. Amano is considered a master, for very good reason. His work continues to astound audiences, fans, and artists alike year after year.
