Agatha All Along ep 1-2 [Review]
“The Sun Be Gone, We Carry On
Spirit As Our Guide.
Down, Down, Down the Road
Down the Witch’s Road”
I was recently invited by Fandango to a preview screening of Disney+'s new series, Agatha All Along, a spin-off of its megahit WandaVision. This show stars Kathryn Hahn, reprising her role as Agatha Harkness, the witch we last saw trapped in Westview after her battle with the Scarlet Witch. Well, as they say, "You can't keep a good witch down for long!" In a bid to restore her powers, Agatha must join a coven of other witches and journey down the Witches' Road, a treacherous astral path that either leads to power or peril. The coven features a stellar cast, including Joe Locke (Heartstopper), Sasheer Zamata (Saturday Night Live), Ali Ahn (Supernatural), Aubrey Plaza (Parks & Recreation), Debra Jo Rupp (That '70s Show), and the incomparable Patti LuPone (Broadway legend—look her up if you don't know!).
The screening included only the first two episodes, but it was enough to give a taste of what's to come for the rest of the season. The show's overall tone is quite dark, with humor that really pushes the boundaries of a Disney+ program. It feels more in line with series like The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Supernatural, or Sleepy Hollow. There was even a scene in the second episode that made me jump out of my seat! If you're a fan of shows like these, you'll feel right at home with Agatha All Along—especially since the incredible Kathryn Hahn graces every scene. Hahn is a brilliant actress who can seamlessly shift from drama to comedy without skipping a beat. She’s effortless in everything she does, even when juggling multiple personalities. You can't help but root for someone who makes evil look so fun.
The show is a tribute to pop culture witches of the past, even featuring them in the closing credits. It also includes what I predict will become the new trending sound on TikTok this Halloween: "Down the Witches' Road," brought to you by the same minds that gave us "Agatha All Along." I can already picture videos of well-dressed witches showing off their costumes on October 31st to this song.
It’s clear that there’s much more to come in the series, as the episodes I watched hinted at some intriguing character dynamics. Needless to say, I'll be ready, along with my familiar Pyewacket, to binge the whole series when it drops this weekend on September 19th.
