On a Tuesday night at the SIFF Egyptian, a crowd of mostly young BIPOC creators in the latest styles and trends gather, taking pictures, hugging, and giving daps. It’s an unusual sight for Seattle. The crowd is a mix of fashionistas, designers, photographers, rappers, artists, filmmakers, writers, and hangers-on, creating a vibe that feels more like a typical night out in L.A. But this is Scope Screenings, a monthly event.

I wrote that phrase on the back of my jean jacket in high school and was often met with confused responses. “What do you mean she’s Black?” “How could punk be Black?” My answer was always the same: punk music’s past, present, and future lie within the Black community. If you want to know where punk is right now, look to the Black community, where she came from.

Yoshitaka Amano is a name that resonates deeply within the realms of fantasy and art. His work, characterized by its ethereal beauty and intricate details, has left an indelible mark on both the world of gaming and the broader art community. If you are a fan of video games or even fine art you have come across his work. It’s undeniably his own. A beautiful cross between the worlds of fine Japanese brushwork and the dynamic eye catching style of fantasy art. Amano is considered a master, for very good reason. His work continues to astound audiences, fans, and artists alike year after year.
