Best Black Lipsticks

When I was a young girl, not so long ago ;), the only colors that lipsticks came in were pinks, oranges, reds, and browns. As a baby goth, all I wanted was to color my lips in the myriad of other colors like purple, blue, green, and the ultimate forbidden color, BLACK. Colored lipstick was not allowed in my high school but that didn’t stop us from constantly pushing those rules. Petroleum jelly + food dye + Kool-Aid made a stained, goopy, concoction with poor payoff, but I loved it. I loved combining the colors like the Evil Queen working in her lab on the perfect potion.

To be honest, this list isn’t entirely selfless, I was looking for a list of the best black lipsticks and couldn’t find it so I made my own! It’s the spooky season (which is year round for me) and the start of Scorpio season so it seemed like the best time! Let’s get to it!

  1. Manic Panic - Nosferatu - This is the O.G. black lipstick! Manic Panic has been out here since 1977, making makeup for all the alt-girlies. Manic Panic was the first dye I used to get my hair neon pink in high school. Thank you, MP for all you’ve done for weird girls across the globe for over 40 years!

2. Glam Goth - Nightmare - What can I say about Glam Goth? Probably the brand I own the most personally, glitters, blushes, and lipsticks are all in daily use for me. Glam Goth is one of the only brands that make bright bold colors for brown skin. Their lipsticks are smooth and have major lasting power.

3. Isamaya - Vanity - This lipstick is probably known more for the container it comes in than the actual product. But whatever gets the people talking! If you’re looking for something more sheer, a black that gives just a hint of color, instead of something that leaves black traces on everything you eat or drink, this is the one for you!

4. Ritual de Fille - Black Thorne - Ritual de Fille is one of those brands that feels like they are giving you more than makeup. There’s magic in those packages, REAL MAGIC! The Black Thorne lip oil is less of a traditional lipstick but more of a balm for the lips. It gives a smooth dark cover that compliments the color of your natural lips, while giving them much-needed moisture.

5. Black Moon Cosmetics - Omen - If you are going for that darker night, Vantablack look then Omen is it. It’s a smooth satin finish lipstick that is as dark as your soul.
